From my journal:
I took these notes and copied them from the back of a receipt in my wallet. I was at a good friend’s home-school graduation ceremony. I was impressed as to how much more meaningful I found it than my own graduation xx years ago.
The theme was leadership.
- Lead with love
- Lead by example
- Lead as a servant
- The only barriers we have are the ones we create in our own minds
As this group was decidedly Christian, the speaker made the following points.
- Stay on the side of Truth and Right
- Be Encouraged – God is in control. This is not our final destination.
- Put your hand to God’s work – Transform the world through your witness and work.
- A lasting, meaningful legacy starts with your philosophy – be sure of who you are and be consistent.
As he was speaking he brought up Colonel Harry Albert “Paddy” Flint and the 39th Infantry Regiment during WWII. Colonel Flint had the helmets and vehicles of this Regiment marked with AAA-O. According to the Colonel, this meant “Anything, anywhere, any time bar nothing.”
I’m reminded of a quote attributed to Davy Crockett, “Be always sure you are right — then go ahead”
